Architectural Drawings
One of the many ways we raise the bar in this industry is providing clients with architectural renderings. These renderings are digital “as is” elevations of the building we use as a point of reference for clients, workers, management companies and project managers. When undergoing large scale restoration projects, we’ve found that a visual depiction of the type and location of the work helps tremendously when seeking permits, historical approval and referencing phases of completion. All drawings rendered are copied and distributed to all parties for future reference.
Windows
Over the years, brick molding on masonry buildings will experience wear and tear far greater than its surrounding materials for a number of reasons. Masonry, when wet will hold water permeation and release it at a slow rate. Wood unfortunately will absorb water at a high rate if not sealed appropriately so as a result, any brick or stone units abutting unsealed wood-work will maintain this moisture saturation for long period of time. This long marriage of moisture and materials will continually saturate the wood leading to rot and decay.
Ironwork
When working with buildings of masonry construction, many times we’re approached with the challenge of restoring the ironwork of the building while having the adequate accessibility. We approach metal works with the same respect to masonry. Preserving the structural integrity and functionality of the historic design is at the forefront of our techniques.
Many steel applications will fail when tied into masonry due to lack of support, corrosion or faulty structural design. Some factors will expedite the corrosion process such as improper coatings, loose supporting brick or chemical reactions from faulty installation or organic growth. DM invests time and research into the preparation and repair of any steel construction.
Insurance & Licensing
The majority of our work takes place within the historic districts of Boston (including Aberdeen, the Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the South End) as well as in Charlestown and the North End. Prior to any project, DM seeks the review, approval and expertise of the Boston Landmarks Commission (Environment Department of the City of Boston) and Boston local Historic District Commissions to ensure the restored structures remain true to their original design. We believe the current beauty of historic Boston can be highly contributed to these associations and we’re proud to continue and support the tradition.
"We combine knowledge, research and education with extensive practical experience to ensure the historical preservation of your building."
